Today, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) welcomed U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín's decision granting LULAC's request to file an amicus brief addressing the proposed settlement over Paramount's merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. LULAC Chief Executive Officer Juan Proaño released the following statement: 

"Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín's decision to allow LULAC and other civil rights leaders to file an amicus brief is important. It gives communities of color a chance to explain why the proposed settlement does not adequately protect them from the harms of the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger.

"Diverse voices in entertainment and journalism are essential to telling authentic stories about our communities. Consolidating two major media companies means fewer jobs, fewer buyers for creative work, fewer opportunities for minority-owned businesses, and fewer people deciding which stories get told. Those harms will fall especially hard on Black and Latino workers and entrepreneurs who already face barriers to opportunity in these industries."
