Globo is using MIPCOM 2026 to strengthen its international distribution business, unveiling a series of scripted adaptations across Europe and Turkey, a landmark acquisition by the BBC and a strategic partnership with Endemol Shine Brasil to develop original entertainment formats for global markets.

Announced during the Brazilian media group’s October 11th showcase in Cannes, the agreements underline Globo’s strategy of turning locally successful programming into internationally adaptable intellectual property, while broadening the reach of its streaming originals and premium drama portfolio.

The most significant new initiative brings Globo together with Endemol Shine Brasil, part of Banijay Latin America, to co-create original entertainment formats intended to appeal to Brazilian audiences and buyers worldwide. The companies have previously collaborated on established franchises including Big Brother Brasil, No Limite, The Masked Singer, Dança dos Famosos and The Wall.

The new partnership shifts the focus toward developing original concepts from the outset, rather than relying primarily on localized versions of existing international formats. Globo will retain priority rights to exploit the new properties across its channels and platforms, while Endemol Shine Brasil will lead international sales through Banijay Entertainment’s network of more than 170 production labels across 25 territories.

The companies aim to develop the next internationally successful entertainment franchise originating in Brazil. According to reporting by PRODU, the first productions emerging from the collaboration could become available in 2027 or 2028.

Globo also confirmed several scripted adaptation agreements. In Portugal, broadcaster SIC is developing a local version of Brazil Avenue, following its successful adaptation of Globo’s Pages of Life. The move extends a relationship that has already demonstrated the commercial potential of Brazilian melodrama in the Portuguese market.

In Turkey, Globo has renewed its collaboration with Ay Yapım on The Life She Built, an adaptation of Fina Estampa. The agreement follows the international success of Leyla, Ay Yapım’s Turkish version of Brazil Avenue, which has reportedly sold to more than 100 countries.

Greece is another target for Globo’s adaptation strategy. Alpha TV is moving forward with local versions of The Others and All the Flowers, with Primavisione involved in production. The agreements add to the company’s efforts to build repeatable international business around stories that can be reimagined for different cultural and television markets.

The BBC deal represents a notable milestone for Globoplay, Globo’s streaming platform. The British broadcaster has acquired the first season of Blood Red – Under the Moonlight for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, marking the first time a Globoplay Original has been licensed to the BBC.

The acquisition provides a new route into the U.K. market for Globo’s original scripted programming, which includes dramas, thrillers, fantasy series and true-crime productions.

At Cannes, Globo is also promoting its Super Dramas slate, led by To Love Is To Care and Three Graces, alongside titles including The Playoffs, Emergency 53 and Single Together. The company is positioning the programming as a combination of established Brazilian audience appeal and international distribution potential.

The broader strategy reflects a changing global television marketplace, in which producers increasingly seek multiple revenue streams from successful intellectual property through finished-program sales, local adaptations and cross-border partnerships.

For Globo, the challenge is to translate its domestic creative strength into repeatable international business. Its new agreement with Endemol Shine Brasil could provide a particularly important test: whether Brazilian entertainment concepts can be developed with global audiences in mind without losing the local characteristics that made them successful in the first place.
